We were so excited when we heard Dita Von Teese was bringing her Strip Strip Hooray show to Perth (two hours away from us). This is the kind of show that usually doesn't come to our part of the world.
If there is any occasion that requires a new outfit this is it. I had a few really luscious fabrics in my stash that I had in mind.
I used Lekala pattern 4131 for the dress. I just adore this pattern, it has a vintage sundress feel to it and I’ve made several day-wear versions. I used a vintage style cotton print in green for the main part of the dress, with a heavy black satin for the neckline, straps and hemline with a panel of fine black organza. I pleated grosgrain ribbon to add detail around the hem.
I used Lekala pattern 5853 for the shrug, made in the black satin and lined in organza. It's so cute! Great to wear over summer going out dresses when it's cooler. I reckon I'll wear this one a lot.
If you haven’t come across Lekala before check them out, they personalise each pattern to your measurements, they have a big range of patterns and their prices are good. I’m not affiliated with them; I just really love what they do.
All the fabrics were new and unused, but I picked them up in secondhand shops for a fraction of the price. I buy a lot of fabric secondhand, I get unusual things this way, good quality and stuff you won't find in fabric retail stores. Check out this post about buying new craft supplies for secondhand prices.
So the total cost to make my outfit was $30 (AUD). $36 if you count the shoes! I am so in love with these Melissa peep toe wedges and I picked these up secondhand too. They're in perfect condition and they retail for about $200, so I was pretty stoked to pick them up for $6.
Dita and company really know how to put on an awesome show! Her acts were stunning and the artists that tour with her were amazing as well. We had a great night out and I'm so glad I got the chance to see them live on stage.
